Hello Siri! I’ve had the Apple TV for years. In my opinion, it has the best UX (user experience) of any TV product, ever, period. So, naturally, when they announced the latest iteration would include an App Store and Siri, I had to get one.
SteelSeries Nimbus Wireless Gaming Controller
Sure I could play my Apple TV games with the remote or even my iPhone, but why? Why wouldn’t I use a nice traditional gaming console style controller. It just feels so good to play games on the TV 90’s style. And with Bluetooth connectivity, I don’t need to worry about pointing the controller directly at the receiver. Just play.
Bluecookies Cubic Wood LED Alarm Clock
This is a very inexpensive but elegant alarm clock. The buttons are hidden away on the back so all you see is the bright LED time and temperature display on the front. The unit can be set to “voice activation” mode to save on battery power. If the microphone doesn’t pick up any sound for 30 seconds it will go to sleep. When the LED is off it looks like a simple wooden box. To wake it up just say something or make a loud noise.
Paprika Recipe Manager
This app is amazing! If you need a way to collect and organize digital recipes you must check it out. After taking way to long to decide what to try I bought Paprika and it has been great. It solved problems I didn’t even know I had. Just search for recipes through the built-in web-browser (or copy/paste in the URL) and save it to your recipe list. You can plan out your weekly meals and create a shopping list. If you already have something in the pantry or fridge save it in the app and it will automatically take it off of your shopping list for you.
Flume for Instagram really is a beautiful experience. I needed a way to do Instagram posts from my Mac so I did some checking around and Flume. It’s super simple, intuitive, and inexpensive. The download is free and you can get it linked up to your account in minutes. But, you do need the Pro version if you want to upload pics and make posts. I works great for me.
Postbox is a power email app for Mac. I’ve used Apple’s Mail for years, you know the free one that ships with every Mac product. A few months ago it started getting a little weird. I’d have emails come in as flagged and I couldn’t figure out why. Anyway, I got so annoyed by it that I started looking around for another email app. After trying a few I decided to go with Postbox. Rock solid, looks great, and packed with advanced features that I’ll likely never even use; perfect.
Super Mario Run
I was born in the late 70’s and grew up in the 80’s, so I consider myself an 80’s kid. Our console was Nintendo and the game was Super Mario Brothers. Finally, we have a mobile version. It’s very true to the original even though the play has been redesigned for use on a mobile device with one hand. It just feels so right to have some Super Mario in my life.
LG 55” Class 1080p 120Hz Flat Panel TV – Black (55LF6000)
It’s about time. The last TV I got was back in 2008, and I didn’t even buy it, it was a gift. I can’t remember exactly why but I thought it would be a good idea to take my family to Target on Black-Friday. As we were about to leave I saw a beautiful LG 55″ 4K for $499.00! I had to get it.
Did you get some cool tech gear this year?
